The 2008 State Farm South Asian Spelling Bee Winners
PRESS RELEASE July 22, 2008 – The 2008 State Farm South Asian Spelling Bee (www.southasianspellingbee.com) continued its 8 city tour this past weekend with two events in the Chicago and New York areas, with a total of 6 winners announced.
In Chicago, Aishwarya Pastapur of Speingfield, IL was the Regional champ and the first and second runners up were Priyanka Damarla of Huntley, IL and Asad Ladhani of Suwanee, GA. In New York, Prerna Kohli of Westbury, NY was the regional champ and the first and second runners up were Ishwam Sethi of Roseland, NJ and Tisya Mavuram of North Brunswick, NJ. The winners received cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 respectively from Makemytrip.com. Children upto 14 years of age are eligible to participate and the contest saw spellers of even 6 years of age compete and make it past a few rounds. There are 2 more cities (LA and Bay Area) on the anvil and for more information and to register your child, please visit www.southasianspellingbee.com The top two winners plus one parent each from every city will be given an all expenses paid trip to NJ on August 16 for the FINALS.
