Three Indian entrepreneurs delivering high speed wireless internet services, educational farming videos and interfaces for the illiterate are among 35 innovators “who exemplify the spirit of innovation in business and technology,” recognized by MIT’s Technology Review list of top young innovators under the age of 35
Rikin Gandhi, 29, Ranveer Chandra, 34 and Indrani Medhi, 32 are in the ‘2010 TR35’ list Gandhi is founder of ‘Digital Green, which educates farmers on farming techniques through locally produced videos. The videos are produced by farmers using handheld camcorders. “Gandhi demonstrated that for every dollar spent, the system persuaded seven times as many farmers to adopt new ideas as an existing programme of training and visits,” the Technology Review said. Villagers produce the videos using handheld camcorders. Ranveer Chandra, a Microsoft researcher, has developed a high-speed wireless Internet connection that can span two kiolemeters. Indrani Medhi, of Microsoft Research India, has developed text-free interfaces for use on computers and laptops by the illiterate.
