Purdue University has reprimanded an Indian-born scientist for false claims regarding his research on nuclear fusion in tabletop experiments.
In 2002, Rusi Taleyarkhan made international headlines with a study, published in the journal Science, in which he claimed to have produced nuclear fusion by making tiny bubbles collapse in a liquid. The university said he had falsely represented that his “bubble fusion” findings had been independently replicated. He was stripped of his named professorship and is barred from serving as a major professor for graduate students for at least three years. Taleyarkhan disputes the charges and has accused the university of railroading him. |
