Indian immigrants, living in ‘dream country,’ buy Jacksonville’s oldest realty company

They came to America 21 years ago, just after their arranged marriage, to make a new life.

Shankar Thayver, who just bought the oldest realty company in Jacksonville, is quick with a smile, and he offers another one when he tells how some of his Indian friends tease him for becoming so Americanized.

After all, he jogs, bikes for exercise and eats lots of Western food. He doesn’t go to the Bollywood movies that come to Jacksonville, but he does go to the beach. He’s even taking swimming lessons — in India, many people never learn — and wants to compete in a triathlon before he’s 50.
