Unions Back Tatas in Jaguar Race

By
The Ford workers union Unite has thrown its support behind the Tata’s bid to acquire the company.
The company allayed apprehensions of the 16,000 British workers that it would shift many manufacturing jobs to India.

Tony Woodley, joint general secretary of Unite, who is pitching for Tata, said, “We don’t want Ford to sell off the two brands, but if that is inevitable, then we would prefer the bidder to have an established presence in manufacturing.”

Ford is expected to settle on the winner of the auction, which has attracted JP Morgan’s OneEquity and Mahindra & Mahindra, in December.
