Donald Trump, who limped into this year’s Forbes annual list of richest people in the world with an estimated value of $2.9 billion is known to gripe at Forbes for chronically underestimating his worth. His grievance is nothing close to that of Hassan Ali Khan’s, whom they missed altogether.
This year’s Forbes list included 36 Indian billionaires with a combined worth of $191 billion, headed by Lakshmi Mittal and the Ambani brothers. However, a tax raid on the property of the reclusive 53-year-old horse trader in Pune traced nearly $8 billion in various overseas accounts and media reports suggest that the final tally could be twice as high. Should even his current net worth hold, Hassan would be the 9th richest Indian, just behind Kumar Birla. And if it should rise to media projections, he will displace Azim Premji from fourth place. What you got on that, Donald?
