A new website is shining a spotlight on corruption in India by allowing users to share their bribery experiences.

Ipaidabribe.com seeks to “uncover the market price of corruption” and has recorded nearly 12,000 bribery reports involving Rs 300 million ($6 million) in bribes from over 400 cities. Bangalore leads the bribery index with Rs 86 million in bribes, followed by Mumbai (Rs 39 million), New Delhi (Rs. 16 million), Hyderabad (Rs 15 million) and Kolkata (Rs 14 million).

Police were the highest recipient of bribes, accounting for Rs 20 million in 3,854 incidents, followed by Registrations, involving Rs. 50 million in 1509 bribery incidents. The site tallied that the average bribe paid for a driving license from the Karnataka Transport Department was Rs 2,750 ($55) and for transfer of vehicles Rs 4,632 ($100).
