NRI Booked for Abandoning Wife, Seeking Dowry
In her complaint, Satwant has alleged that her parents had spent Rs. 10 lakh on her wedding. The family had also given Rs. 25 lakh in cash and gold ornaments to Lalit.
A Canadian NRI and his parents have been booked by the Punjab police for demanding dowry and abandoning his wife.
According to a report in the Tribune newspaper, a case has been registered under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Lalit Saini, his father Amir Saini and mother Darshana Saini at the Mehna police station. No one has been arrested so far.
Lalit is a Canadian citizen while his family lives in Bahadur Nagar of Jalandhar.
According to the newspaper, Satwant Kaur of Bughipura village near Moga had married Lalit in 2013.

Lalit lived with Satwant for a few days in India after marriage and want back to Canada promising to take her along with him after fulfilling legal formalities. He did not come back and instead, started demanding more money from her parents. He also stopped talking to her, the newspaper wrote.
Satwant Kaur finally filed a complaint against her husband.
Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Vazir Singh recommended registration of a case against the NRI and his parents, the newspaper reported.
A senior official of the Moga police said a look-out notice would soon be issued against the NRI at all international airports. “We will also explore legal options to cancel the NRI’s passport, besides seeking his extradition from the Canadian authorities,” the newspaper quoted an official as saying.
