No Dollars at the Taj

The dollar has been badly bruised

By
In a sign of just how badly the dollar has been bruised, admission to Indian monuments for foreign tourists will no longer be priced in the U.S. currency.

The Indian Ministry of Culture has traditionally set the cost of admission at $5 at World Heritage sites like the Taj Mahal and $2 at other monuments. The price is converted to rupees at the prevailing exchange rates. But now the government has set admission at Rs 250 at the heritage sites, which translates to $6.50 at the current exchange rate of Rs 39.
