Nicht Deutsche?

Anshu Jain’s elevation as head of investment banking at Deutsche Bank, putting him next in line for the bank’s top job, is raising eyebrows in Germany because he is reportedly not a fluent German speaker.

Jain, 47, joined the London division of the bank in 1995.

Dieter Hein of Fairesearch, an analysis firm, said, “I don’t think the Germans would see it as in their interest to have an English-speaking investment banker from London running Deutsche Bank.”

German media reports have speculated on Jain’s German language skills, with the newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau concluding that the record was unclear.

Got to hit Berlitz, man!
