Modi to Host Ivanka Trump in Dining Hall Said to be the World’s Largest
Narendra Modi will host Ivanka Trump at the Hyderabad Nizam's famous "101 Dining Hall" at the Taj Falaknuma Palace hotel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, in the world’s largest dining hall on Nov. 28. He will host her at the Hyderabad Nizam’s famous “101 Dining Hall” at the Taj Falaknuma Palace hotel in the city.
The dining hall can seat 101 guests, according to Taj Hotels. The venue has sophisticated wood interiors and ornate crystal chandeliers, and exquisite acoustics that enable one to hear whispers from one corner of the room to another.
Britain’s King Edward VIII and the last Russian tsar, Nicholas II, had dined here decades ago. The palace is scorpion-shaped and spread over 32 acres. Mehboob Ali Pasha, the sixth nizam of the erstwhile princely state, used to entertain guests in this luxurious dining hall in gold plates and cut glass.
Five Belgian chandeliers hang from the ceiling in the 101 dining hall. The dining table, at 80ft, is the world’s longest. It is made of seven pieces, 5.7ft wide and 2.7ft high. The chairs are made of carved rosewood with green leather upholstery.
It took nine years to construct and furnish the palace, which flaunts Italian marble and stained-glass windows. The palace has 60 rooms and 22 halls, and is famous for its Jade room and artifacts collected by the nizams from around the world. The Taj hotel opened here in 2010.
Trump will reach Hyderabad on Nov. 28 for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, which is being co-hosted by India and the United States. It is organized by the U.S. State Department. The theme for the summit is “Women First, Prosperity for All” this year. The event will see participation from 350 delegates from the United States alone.
