Lilly Singh Makes It to YouTube Rewind For 4th Consecutive Year
YouTube Rewind video this year also features Dubai-based Gaurav Chaudhary, British Indian content creator Vikram Singh Barn and Indian Swedish fashion vlogger Safiya Nyagaard.
Lilly Singh, the Canadian YouTube sensation of Indian origin, made the cut in the online platform’s annual rewind video for the fourth consecutive time. With the year 2017 coming to a close, YouTube has released its annual rewind video that captures top trends, videos, memes and channel personalities of the year.
The Toronto-based YouTube sensation was featured prominently in Rewind 2015. Singh started her channel, called Superwoman, in October 2010. She is known for her hilariously relatable videos on everyday life as a brown woman living in Canada. She also became UNICEF’s Global Goodwill Ambassador this year. Singh’s parents had migrated from Punjab to Toronto.
In 2015, she undertook a 27-city world tour called “A Trip To Unicorn Island,” the behind-the-scenes footages of which she released on her channel.
The latest YouTube Rewind video, “The Shape of 2017”, is one of the most comprehensive ones made so far, with nearly 300 creators, viral stars, musicians, and surprise guests from over 20 countries. This year’s list of top trending videos represents the unbelievable diversity of creativity shared on YouTube every day and around the world, Google said.
The other Indian stars who made it to the Rewind this year are the Indian comedy group All India Bakchod, Dubai-based Gaurav Chaudhary of Technical Guruji who shares tech know-hows, Mumbai-based Harun Robert who runs MadStuffwithRob for art hacks, British Indian content creator Vikram Singh Barn of Vikkstar123, beauty vlogger Kaushal of Kaushal Beauty, Bhuvam Bam of BB Ki Vines who has comedy-oriented content, half-Indian half-Swedish Safiya Nyagaard who runs her channel on fashion-related content, and Shruti Arjun Anand who posts How to videos.
YouTube’s top 10 trending videos for the year got 633 million views collectively, a jump from 83 million as compared to last year. Together they clocked in 40 million hours, with channels generating this content having more than 55 million subscribers.
The Spanish song Despacito by Luis Fonsi unseated the five-year-long top spot of PSY’s Gangnam Style as the most watched YouTube video, with more than 4.4 billion views.
