Indian Double Agent in Jackson Heights?

By
Rabinder Singh, former joint secretary in India’s intelligence agency, RAW, who fled India in 2004 with his wife Parminder Kaur after he fell under suspicion of being a CIA mole, is reportedly living in New York City’s Indian neighborhood of Jackson Heights, according to Indian media reports.

Singh is wanted in India for violating the Official Secrets Act and government officials say they are seeking his extradition from the U.S. Singh sought asylum in the United States in 2004, but his request was rejected by an immigration judge on the ground that he had failed to establish that the Indian intelligence service RAW even existed. A U.S. Court of Appeals reversed that decision and remanded it back to the judge, ruling that RAW’s existence was evident.

In his appeal filed under the name of Surinder Jeet Singh, he claimed he was a RAW agent assigned to spy on the Khalistan movement for 13 years. He said he quit the agency and fled to the United States when he was ordered to participate in an assassination plot against a senior religious Sikh leader.

A group calling itself the Patriotic Sons of Mother India has offered a $500,000 reward for information on Singh’s whereabouts.

Let the hunt begin.
