An Indian-origin cop in the UK has been sacked for failing to exercise reasonable care and monitoring of a homeless person who died after she ejected him from a police station in London.

Police Constable Bhupinder Kalsi was fired without a notice after “Unsatisfactory Police Performance” meeting, said Metropolitan Police on Nov.19.

According to a police statement, the incident goes back to Mar. 4, 2016, when Kalsi ejected a Greek national named Pericles Malagardis from the front office at Uxbridge Police Station after he reached police station to collect his dog.

The Independent said in its report that Malagardis, 63, had come to take his dog, which was placed in a kennel while he was undergoing treatment at a hospital for cellulitis, a skin infection. He arrived at the police station at 4 pm that day but was thrown out by Kalsi and one other staff member a few hours later for smoking inside the station.

Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) found in its investigation that Malagardis was asked to leave police station at 12.40 am and after that, he was physically kicked out of there. He spent whole night outside the station, says publication.

The newspaper quoted the conclusion of investigation as saying, “When a check on his wellbeing was made at about 5.30 am he was unresponsive and the London Ambulance Service was called. Mr. Malagardis was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6.45am.”

It was found that Malagardis suffered from hypothermia. The case was referred to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which didn’t find enough evidence to prosecute Kalsi and staff member for any offenses.

According to the police statement, Kalsi “did not provide information requested by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) regarding actions taken to support Mr. Malagardis, and failed to follow instruction and training when dealing with unresponsive casualties,” after he was found unconscious on the pavement.

It further said, she also “failed to exercise reasonable care in her treatment and monitoring of Mr. Malagardis, following his ejection from the front office.”

The police said in its statement that she was watching a DVD whilst on duty, following  Malagardis’ ejection from the front office/reception area, which proves her performance unsatisfactory.

Another police station staff member, who was reportedly involved with Kalsi in this incident, is facing a separate disciplinary hearing in this matter, reported PTI.
