Curry Makes You Smarter

Ever wonder what makes Indians so damn smart?

According to a study in the American Journal of Epidemology, Singapore researchers might have struck upon the answer that is sure to warm every Indian’s heart – and stomach.

The secret is in the curry.

The researchers found that elderly men who consumed curry occasionally or frequently performed better on standardized tests than those who never or rarely ate curry.

The authors claims their research is “the first epidemiologic evidence supporting a link between curry consumption and cognitive performance that has been suggested by a large volume of earlier experimental evidence.”

 

Turns out that Curcumin, which is found in curry, especially turmeric, possesses potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The researcher make the “interesting” observation that Alzheimer’s disease among India’s elderly is a quarter of that in the United States.

Distressingly, however, occasional curry use, defined as consumption as infrequently as once in six months, is enough. Sorry, slurping down that extra scoop of rasam won’t add to the brain quotient.
