Canadian NRI Kills Wife, Self After Domestic Tiff
Gurmail was married to Gurjeet for two years and this was the second marriage for both of them.
A Canada-based NRI, on a visit to India, murdered his wife and later committed suicide by consuming poison at Daudhar Garbi village in Moga district of Punjab on Nov. 23.
According to reports, Gurmail Singh, originally hailing from Hoshiarpur district, was staying with his wife Gurjeet Kaur at her maternal grandparents’ house in Daudhar Garbi village of the district. Gurmail was married to Gurjeet for two years and this was the second marriage for both of them.
Around 6 pm on Nov. 23, Gurmail had a tiff with Gurjeet over a family dispute and in a fit of rage, he picked up a sharp weapon and attacked his wife. On seeing this, his daughter-in-law Ramandeep Kaur ran toward her mother-in-law but she too was attacked.
While Gurjeet succumbed to her injuries instantly, Ramandeep, who was left seriously injured, was rushed to a local hospital at Moga, where after treatment, she’s now stated to be out of danger. Soon after stabbing Gurmeet, Gurmail consumed poison and died within a few minutes, according to local media reports.
While from her first marriage, Gurjeet has two children who live in Australia, Gurmail has one son, but both had no children together.
After marriage, both Gurmail and Gurjeet were living in Canada for some years. Gurjeet came to India in May this year, while Gurmail came a couple of weeks ago. The couple did not enjoy cordial relations, y were reportedly not enjoying cordial relations, the Tribune reported.
A case against Gurmail was registered at Badhni Kalan police station, the Times of India reported.
