Woman Arrested For Transporting Children to Their Parents in the West Illegally

A woman has been arrested by Chennai police for transporting children to their parents abroad by posing as their parent and without legitimate visas.

The children, who were facing difficulties in going abroad to be with their parents due to visa rejections and other legalities, were contacted by members of Haru Manju Datta’s team. The racket team told parents living in the U.K. or U.S. that they can transport their children in return for a fee. This process used to take place without proper visas reported Mumbai Mirror.

According to a Times of India report, 55-year-old Datta reached Mumbai International Airport from the UK on Dec.1, where she was detained by the authorities on account of a lookout notice issued against her earlier.
She had been arrested earlier as well under the charges of human trafficking. This year, after Chennai police busted her trafficking racket, she was arrested for trafficking at least seven minors, added the report.

Eventually, she was released on bail and then she disappeared. A lookout notice was issued after her disappearance this year.

When she reached Mumbai airport this time, she was apprehended by Sahar police, who also informed Chennai police about her arrest. A team from Chennai Police reached Mumbai. A police team from Chennai produced Datta in a court and obtained her transit remand.

Mumbai Mirror quoted Senthil Kumar, Deputy Police Commissioner, Chennai Police, as saying, “After the gang was busted, she (Haru Manju Datta) was arrested in the U.K. She was deported by the authorities on Saturday. The Chennai police arrested her from Mumbai.”

An application submitted before court also pointed toward the compliance of immigration officers in Datta’s wrongdoings.

The Times of India cited the application as saying that Datta’s passport carries departure stamps seven times but no corresponding arrival stamp is found on her passport. It hints that some of the immigration officers have been secretly involved with her in this fraudulent practice.
