ZEE to Create Content in Foreign Languages

ZEE Studios International, which was launched in Vancouver, Canada, on Sept. 21, aims to create global content in various international languages. A large part of the content will be based on popular Indian creative ideas and concepts.

“ZEE has always been a cultural ambassador of India, taking its rich and engaging content across the world,” Amit Goenka, the CEO of the International Broadcast Business at Zee Entertainment Enterprises, said, adding that Canada is known as a large production hub for various Hollywood companies, as the country offers the requisite infrastructure, talent pool, scenic locales as well as a favorable government incentive scheme.

“After a series of discussions with the government of British Columbia, Canada, we were invited to set up a production company in Vancouver. Our endeavor through this venture is to produce global content for mainstream audiences across various international markets as well as take care of our domestic requirements,” added Goenka.

Popular serials on Indian TV

The Ashok Saraf, Rakhee Tandon-starrer comedy series Hum Paanch will stay alive in the minds of those born in the 1980s in India. The show, aired on ZEE TV during 1995-99, featured the story of a family with five daughters. It is considered by fans as an all-time classic, rated one of the most favorite comedy serials of the time, along with  Dekh Bhai Dekh.

In an attempt to cash in on the popularity, the series returned again in 2005. But in its second coming, the show was not a grand success like its predecessor, and it ran for just 18 months.

Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain, on the other hand, was premiered in March 2015. It is continuing its successful run on the &TV channel in India. The series revolves around the lives of two neighboring couples who live in the fictional Modern Colony in Uttar Pradesh.
