Sex Book Premature
"It's too revealing and has a lack of beauty, which will fail to inspire children's interest."
Shanghai city has removed from its shelves a textbook on sex education for primary school children because it accidentally arrived prematurely, a media report said.
The printing house, by mistake, released the book for children in class one and two early, the textbook compiler told Shanghai Daily.
The copies of the text book will now hit the shelves in late September.
A poll showed that majority of people welcomed the textbook as it helps parents answer the question: “Where do I come from?”
While 62 percent of the parents welcomed the book, 38 percent wanted the textbook’s contents to be improved. Few of the respondents opposed it.
The textbook introduces names of private parts and explains fertilization.
There were some who had doubts about it.
“It’s too revealing and has a lack of beauty, which will fail to inspire children’s interest,” newly-married Jing Wen was quoted as saying.
However, Liu Yeping, of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, said: “The new sex education textbook has made great improvement compared with the past. But it is still too implicit, compared with German and Japanese sex education textbooks.”
“The younger the children are, the easier it will be for teachers to carry out the sex education,” she said.
