Her Lotto Fix

By
An Indian store clerk at a 7-Eleven store in California has been charged with cheating a man out of a half-million-dollar winning lottery ticket.

The man asked Rajinder Kaur at the Roseville, Calif., store to verify his mega million ticket and was told he had won $4. She paid him the money and then pocketed the $555,000 winning ticket, according to lottery officials.

Kaur’s scheme allegedly fell apart, because the victim called lottery officials as he became suspicious after learning that the ticket had been sold at the Roseville store and remained unclaimed. Lottery officials say the ticket was found on Kaur. If convicted she faces up to four years in prison.

Players are encouraged to sign the backs of their tickets to avoid such scams. Tickets that have been altered automatically trigger investigations.
