India
3rd Most Powerful Nation
US, Euro, Japanese and Russian power is expected to decline, while that of India and China grow by 2025.
India is ranked as the third most powerful country in the world after the U.S. and China and the fourth most powerful bloc after those two countries and the European Union in 2010, according to a new US intelligence report.
The Global Governance 2025 report, published by the U.S. National Intelligence Council (NIC) and the European Union’s Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), expects India’s clout to rise even further by 2025. The U.S. tops the list of powerful countries/regions, according to the report, accounting for nearly 22 percent of global power. It is followed by the European Union with 16 percent, China with 12 percent and India with eight percent. Japan, Russia and Brazil each account for 5 percent. An “International Futures Model” derived from GDP, defense, spending, population and technology for individual states projects the global clout of many countries will shift in the next 15 years. US, Euro, Japanese and Russian power is expected to decline, while that of India and China grow by 2025, although the rankings will not be affected: Global Power Index 2025
