A Siberian court has rejected a state prosecutors’ attempt to ban a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita as “extremist” literature that provokes “social discord.”
The higher court in Tomsk upheld a lower court verdict dismissing the case against a version of the Gita titled Bhagvad Gita As It Is, published by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in Russia.
The attempt to classify the Gita as extremist and ban its distribution in Siberia had triggered an uproar among Hindus worldwide.
