The discovery of new uranium reserves in Andhra Pradesh will nearly double India’s uranium reserves, according to the chairman of India’s atomic energy commission.
The area has confirmed reserves of 49,000 tons and the projected figure will be triple that. India presently has 175,000 tonnes of uranium reserves. It is estimated that worldwide there are 5.5 billion tonnes of economically viable reserves, with Canada, Australia and Kazaksthan as the world’s largest producers.
