Tata Motors is reportedly toying with a $5,000
version of its Nano car for the U.S. market. The Nano, which scrambled the
Indian small auto market with a $2,500 version, would need to be upgraded to
meet the safety and emissions standards in the US.
Tata showcased Champagne Gold Nano LX at an auto
show in Detriot and Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata has said the company hopes
to launch in the US market in three years. The company is also bringing
versions of the Nano to European markets. The cheapest autos currently in the
US market cost around $9,000.
