The Moga police in Punjab have booked a case against a U.S.-based NRI and his mother for demanding dowry and abandoning his wife.
According to reports, Gursewak Singh, who lives in the U.S. and his mother Surjit Kaur have been charged with demanding dowry.
It’s said that Harpreet Kaur of Gobindgarh Basti in Moga was married to Gursewak Singh on May 12 this year. Both were divorcees at the time of their marriage. Harpreet has a three-year-old son from her first marriage.
Gursewak agreed to marry her and take her and her son to the U.S. after marriage. According to the Tribune newspaper, however, after going back to the U.S., Gursewak started demanding Rs. 10 lakh from her and later stopped talking to her. On Oct. 11, he returned to India and started pressurizing her for money.
It’s also alleged that he took some indecent photographs of his wife and threatened to upload them on social media. On Oct. 27, he went back to the U.S. without informing her and on Oct. 31, she and her son were thrown out of the house by her mother-in-law. She was also allegedly beaten by them.
