Too Stiff To Be Married

Beware! If you don’t look too lovey-dovey in your wedding pictures, the Canadian government may not allow you to immigrate to Canada! Immigration authorities are refusing to grant a visa to Parminder Singh Pannu, a Canadian mill-worker for his new bride Ranjit, saying that the couple looked too stiff and aloof in their wedding pictures to be really married. While the immigration authorities are thinking scam and a sham wedding, the majority of couples in arranged marriages typically look a little awkward in wedding photos – they are two strangers getting married, after all! Indian brides even known to shed a few tears on their wedding day, it’s the done thing.

The couple married in 2002 and Ranjit has never been allowed to join her husband in Canada. The immigration department insists: “Your marriage is not genuine and was entered into primarily for the purpose of acquiring permanent residence in Canada.”

Singh says he was married before 150 people in the Punjab, but the feds aren’t buying it. So, unfortunately for the stiff bride and groom, they’ve spent the last three years apart/ Singh claims he to have spent over $50,000 on legal fees and in having to commute to the Punjab to be with his wife. The moral: Smile on your wedding day – or you may end up crying.
