Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) expanded its operations in Little Rock, Arkansas, by hiring more than 200 people as part of its agreement with Transamerica, an insurance company, to transform the administration of its insurance and annuity business lines in the United States.
“More than 200 former Transamerica employees now work for TCS at this Little Rock facility, as part of TCS recruiting and protecting more than 2,200 Transamerica jobs across the U.S. in multiple locations,” the company said in a statement.
Last month, TCS opened its third office in Texas as part of its $2.5 billion contract with Transamerica. It rebadged 1,000 Transamerica employees in Iowa in April.
The Indian technology firm already has offices in Bentonville, Arkansas, which has 150 employees. It also plans to add an education program called goIT for underserved youth to explore app development, design thinking and technology careers to the Little Rock offices.
“Tata Consultancy Services has invested in Arkansas’ future workforce through its goIT program for our students. Now this partnership with Transamerica will create more jobs for our existing workforce,” Governor Asa Hutchinson said. “I appreciate TCS’ commitment to our state and the economic opportunities it is providing for those already in high-tech jobs and those preparing for a high-tech career,” he added.
“TCS is thrilled to welcome more than 200 additional Arkansans to our workforce as we continue to invest in local talent and U.S. facilities, helping American companies like Transamerica digitally transform and adapt to rapidly evolving customer demands,” said Suresh Muthuswami, President and Global Head, Banking, Financial Services and Insurance Platforms, TCS.
TCS is the second Indian company to join the coveted hundred billion dollar club, after Reliance Industries. In the United States, it was ranked among the top three employers by the Netherlands-based Top Employers Institute. In the last three years, it has invested almost $3 billion in the United States and was among the top two IT services job creators.
In Arkansas and the rest of the United States, it has started multiple education programs through academic partnerships and endowments to schools such as Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell Tech and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
TCS has also been facing trial in the United States over allegations that it showed bias against American workers. A federal judge in Oakland, California, on Dec. 27 expanded the case, which was filed in 2015, into class action on behalf of the American complainants who allegedly lost their jobs at TCS offices since they were not assigned to any of the company’s clients, Bloomberg reported earlier.
