Tax Free Indian Zones In Zambia

Zambia is proposing the creation of a tax free economic zones for Indian companies to invest in its mining industry.

“We have had a long partnership in India, with investments in several areas. But what has been lacking was visibility. This zone will help in improving India’s profile (in Zambia),” Zambia’s Minister for Commerce, Trade and Industry Felix Mutati told the media.

Similar economic zones have been created in the country for Malaysian and Chinese companies.

Zambia is hoping to attract almost $1 billion in Indian investment in its mining sector, principally in equipment and processing of raw products.

At 50 percent, Indian companies already dominate foreign investment in the country’s mining industry. Total Indian investment in Zambia tops $2 billion, principally in mining, banking, health and education.
