Surrendering Independence

Independence, the only surviving ocean liner built in the United States to sail under the American flag is on its last voyage, reportedly headed to a scrap yard in Alang, India.
 

The historic ship, which made its first voyage from New York to the Mediterranean 57 years ago was towed out of San Francisco on Feb 8.
The ship, renamed Oceanic prior to its final voyage, has listed its destination as Singapore, but cruise enthusiasts are buzzing with speculation that it final passage is to the Indian scrap yard.
