Russell Brand continues to strengthen his affinity towards India. The British comedian-actor married his long-term partner Laura Gallacher on August 26 at a church near home at Henley-on-Thames, which was followed by an India-themed wedding reception.
Brand was previously married to popular American singer, Katy Perry. The guest list for the Brand-Gallacher wedding included musician Noel Gallagher and comedian David Baddiel, The Sun reported. After the intimate ceremony, they hosted a wedding party with an Indian theme.
India-themed Party
Brand reportedly spent $3,000 to hire a New Orleans paddle steamer to transport the wedding party to an India-themed reception where staff wore saris, Daily Mail reported.
The actor’s fascination with India is not new. In 2010, he married Perry in a Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan. From worshipping an idol of Lord Ganesha to a Hindu priest conducting the ceremony, they chose to have a traditional Hindu wedding.
Conversion to Hindu
A lesser known fact about Brand is that he practises Hinduism. He also openly advocates Transcendental Meditation, and regularly attends Hare Krishna services. Religion, specifically Hinduism, has apparently helped Brand with his drug addiction problems, reported The Times of India.
Brand and Gallacher have a nine-month-old daughter, Mabel, who was the guest of honour at their wedding.
