Rat For Lunch

The Bihar government is proposing to add rat meat to the menus of its state-run canteens.

“People in different parts of the world eat lizards and dogs. Why not rats?” asks the state’s tribal welfare minister, Jeetan Ram Manjhi.
Officials say rat meat is a source of cheap protein and its consumption is common among Musahars, a tribe who traditionally caught rats, and often served them with rice.
