Priest Accused Of Visa Fraud

A Hindu temple priest in Milwaukee, Wisc., is accused of charging up to $30,000 to secure illegal visas for religious workers from India.
Immigration authorities say they became suspicious of Sagarsen Haldar, 30, head of the Gaudiya Vaisnava Society (GVS), after he sponsored 33 people under the R-1 religious visas category to work at the temple.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent Gary Hartwig, said, “The defendant is charged with gaming the immigration system for his personal profit.”

ICE alleges the sponsored workers never worked at the temple, instead seeking out other work, and had to pay Haldar $500 weekly to settle their $30,000 debt for the sponsorship.
