India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, is constructing a $1 billion 27-story palace in the sky with a helipad, glass fronted apartments for guests, a two-story health club and six floors of car parking. The 570 feet tall building, named Antilla, will have a total floor area greater than the Versailles Palace, and will likely be the most expensive home in the world.
The home, expected to be completed in 2008, will house Ambani, his mother, wife and three children serviced by a full-time staff of 600. The project has variously been celebrated as the “21st century version of the hanging gardens of Babylon” and denounced as an “edifice to Ambani’s ego.” |
