About three-fourths of all H-1B visa holders in 2018 are Indian citizens, according to an official U.S. report.
Quoting US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), news agency PTI said by Oct. 5, there were about 419,637 foreign nationals working in the US on H-1B visas and of these 309,986 are Indians.
The USCIS said in its report ‘H-1B petitions by gender and country of birth fiscal year 2018,’ that only one fourth of all H-1B visa holders are female. Only 106,096 (or 25.3 percent) are females as against 311,997 (or 74.3 percent males), according to the report.
Of the 309,986 Indians on H-1B visas, only 63,220 or 20.4 percent are females while nearly 245,517 Indians on H-1B visas or 79.2 percent are males. As many as 1,249 Indians on H-1B visas have been characterized in the category of missing/others, the news agency said quoting USCIS report.
Indians account for 73.9 percent of the total H-1B visas and are followed by the Chinese with just 47,172 on H-1B visas. The Chinese are just 11.2 percent of the total foreign nationals on this type of visa, the news agency said.
However, there is no gender disparity among the Chinese as 21,342 or 45.2 percent are females and 25,718 or 54.5 percent are males.
Closely following India and China are Canada and South Korea, the two countries that account for a little more than one percent of H-1B visas.
All other countries have less than one percent of the H-1B visas, the news agency quoted from USCIS report.
Of all the countries that have been mentioned in the USCIS report, The Philippines gets a special mention as the Asian archipelago is the only country in top 10 H-1B visa holders to have more women (1712 or 52.7 percent) on H-1B visas than males (1519 or 46.7 percent) on H-1B visas. By Oct. 5, 3,250 professionals from the Philippines were working in the U.S. on H-1B visas, PTI reported.
