Politics and reality shows probably make strange bedfellows, but there we have it: Raj Peter Bhakta who hit pop consciousness with his adventures on Donald Trump’s The Apprentice is now playing Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. The bow-tied Bhakta has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to seek the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania’s 13th congressional district. “My optimism that our finest hour is yet to come is powerfully shaped by my experience as the son of immigrants, a first generation American,” he says. ” I am living the American dream. I have seen with my own eyes the greatness of this country, and, perhaps above all, I want to run to keep the American dream alive – whether you are a first or seventh generation American.” Bhakta says he’s concerned about the Federal government’s wasteful pork barrel ways and the fact that it is drunk on its own power: ” Our present federal budget is so bloated that a man of a thousand pounds would blush at the sight of it. The budget is plenty big, to succeed and to compete in the age of globalization, we need to transform government bloat into a state of fitness.” So will the Apprentice be up to the task? Will we be saying ‘You’re Hired!’ – or ‘You’re Fired!’? |
