According to local media, a witness said that the victim was shot dead in the head and had little chance of surviving.
In a statement by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Nov 13, IHIT Cpl. David Lee said, “This shooting occurred near a public school, a blatant disregard for the safety of the community. We are fortunate that school was not in session at this time. We believe this incident was not random and is linked to the ongoing gang conflict in the lower mainland.”
In September, three people, including one Indian national, were killed when a gunman opened fire in the lobby of a bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Indian was identified as 25-year old Pruthviraj Kandepi of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier this year, an Indian American student was among those injured in the shooting incident that left 17 people dead at a Florida school. The injured Indian American student suffered minor injuries after getting hit by splinters, PTI reported.
