The Food Policy Institute has ranked India at the near bottom of its Global Hunger Index, accounting for almost 42 percent of the world’s underweight children.
India ranks 67th out of 84 countries in the index, far behind China, which ranks 9, and Pakistan, which ranks 52. A separate report on 54 Commonwealth countries ranked India lowest in child hunger, with 43 percent of Indian children being underweight compared with 31 percent in Pakistan and 23 percent in Nigeria. |
