Contrary to the popular bashing on Capitol Hill that Indian companies use a majority of the H1B visas, an analysis by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) found that under 12% of the 107,686 H1B visas issued in 2008 went to Indian companies.
The number of H1B visas have been capped at 65,000 annually. The cap was tripled to 195,000 between 2001 and 2003, but nearly 260,000 visas were unused in those years as the dot com bubble burst. The NFAP study also discredits another popular myth that H1B visa holders are undermining job opportunities for American citizens. In fact, H1B visa holders account for less than 0.1 percent of the country’s 154 million workforce. TOP 20 EMPLOYERS FOR NEW H-1B PETITIONS IN FY2008
