Following stinging criticism over the public spectacle surrounding the pre-wedding darshan by Abishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, officials at the Tirupati Temple have decreed that VIP treatment would no longer be meted out to visiting celebrities and business tycoons.

Trustees of the Lord Venkateswara Temple in southern Andhra Pradesh apologized to devotees for the “over enthusiasm” demonstrated by temple officials toward the couple. Hundreds of thousands of people wait patiently in lines for several hours every day to view the deities, a line the high-powered Bollywood couple were able to circumvent.
