A Mumbai company is testing a computer model to predict the outcomes of World Cricket Cup games.
The program proved eerily accurate in predicting Pakistan’s defeat to the West Indies in the inaugural World Cup. But after trumpeting the initial success, which was widely reported in the media, the company was squeamish about putting out any fresh predictions. Is it because, as a company spokesman said, “To keep the fun in the game we should fail sometimes.” Funny, we could do that on our own without turning to a sophisticated computer model. |
