Is this a new trend? After work, instead of grabbing a burger or a beer, you get yourself a hukka and a belly dancer! Dilip Mehta of Dimple’s Bombay Talk and his daughter Payal, along with their partner Raj Balwani, have dreamed up Fire & Ice Hukka Bar and Lounge in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
In an attempt to be all things to all people, the restaurant is serving Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern food, and the music includes Hip Hop, Middle Eastern and Bollywood rhythms with belly dancers performing every night. According to Payal Mehta, the idea is to be in New Jersey but give the younger crowd a taste of New York, so that they don’t have to drive into the city for their excitement. The hukkas, which are smoked in the Middle East and South Asia, were once the domain of kings and village heads and aristocratic grand dames. Here the hukka tobacco in the water pipes is flavored with flavors like mint, apple, strawberry and cappuccino. |
