A Jonesboro, Ga., man has been charged with murdering his daughter because of her refusal to stay in her arranged marriage. Chaudhry Rashid, 54, a Pakistani immigrant, has been charged with killing his daughter, Sandeela Kanwal, 25, after arguing with her over her decision to divorce her husband of six years, as it “would disgrace the family.” According to police, Rashid strangled his daughter with a bungee cord in her bedroom.
In another “honor killing” case, an Indian businessman, Chiman Rai, was convicted last month in Atlanta for hiring two men for murdering his African American daughter in law in 2000. |
