Nearly two-thirds of all Hindus identify themselves as Democrats or lean toward that party, according to a national survey. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life reported that 41% of Hindus identified themselves as Democrats and another 22 percent leaned Democratic. By contrast just 6% identified themselves as Republican and 7% leaned toward that party. Ideologically, 32% of Hindus identified themselves as liberals, 44% as moderates and 12% as conservative. Almost 79% of Hindus believe that abortion should be legal in most or all cases, the highest percentage of any religious group Hindus were the most tolerant religious group with 89% sharing the view than “many religions can lead to eternal life” and only 5% stating that their religion is the only true faith. By contrast, 36 percent of Evangelical Churches and 33% of Muslims view their religion as the only path to salvation. |
