An NRI woman from Germany has handed over her ancestral land in Gujarat to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) for Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. This is the first piece of land which has been acquired in Gujarat by NHSRCL for this project.
According to a PTI report, Savita Ben, who is in her eighties now, especially came to India to hand over her ancestral land in Chansad area in Vadodara to the authorities for the project.
Sharing this news on Twitter, NHSRCL said, “Not Only Indian But NRI also came forward to support nation’s dream. Project is gaining momentum. More people like Savita Ben are coming forward & contributing their bit!”

She has given 11.94 hectares of her land out of the total ancestral land holding of 71 acres or 28.73 hectares to NHSRCL. In return, she was given Rs.30,234.3.
Savita Ben lives in Germany with his son and runs an Indian restaurant there. She shifted to Germany 33 years ago after her marriage, said the report citing an NHSRCL official.
NHSRCL spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar was quoted by the news agency as saying, “She flew down especially to hand over the land for the project and we are extremely grateful to her for having agreed to it. She returned to Germany where she lives with her son and runs a restaurant. This stretch of land is the first piece of land which we have acquired for the project in the state.”
The 504 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor will be India’s first bullet train project. The project requires 1400 hectares both in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Of these 1,120 hectares are owned privately.
