For one brief moment, an Indian school teacher became a billionaire several times over when he checked his bank balance online and learned that he had Rs 490 billion (almost $10 billion) in his bank account.
Parijat Saha, who expected only Rs 10,000 ($200) in his account, rushed to an ATM machine to verify, and sure enough he had $10 billion in the bank.
He rang up the State Bank of India to inform them of the error and hastily withdrew his own Rs 10,000 from the account. After all, if they were giving him someone else’s money, who knows they might give his to someone else.
Saha told a reporter, “Even though I got my money back, the account still holds the billions of dollars as uncleared amount. I don’t know how long I’ll have to keep that astronomical figure in my account.”
