The Sikh Coalition accuses San Francisco Airport of being the worst for Sikh travelers. The coalition, says the airport generated a third of all complaints filed by Sikhs on profiling and harassment involving secondary screening by security staff.
The Transportation Security Administration established guidelines for secondary screening of passengers with religious headgear. Such passengers may be subjected to additional screening at the screener's discretion. But the Sikh Coalition asserts that the policy is being interpreted at the Francisco airport as requiring such additional screening instead.
A TSA spokesman rejected the criticism, saying the high incidence in San Francisco is simply because of the large population of Sikhs in the region.
